Established over 100 years ago, Butcher Group in one of Norwich's oldest retailers and remains a family owned and run business. The company’s success is based on a tradition of family management, now in it’s fourth generation, and good old fashioned service and the ability to offer great value for money. Our retail division “Hovells” offers the largest range of lifestyle furniture in Norwich with a product range of over 2000 items to choose from at any one time. We have stores in Norwich & Lowestoft as well as a warehouse in Norwich that forms the base for our Online store. From a small drapers shop in King Street, known as GF Butcher the draper, Butchers moved to Swan Lane in 1900 where it traded in drapery and then more recently in fashion and furnishings for almost 100 years. When the store closed in 2002 it was decided to consolidate the retail business to just one brand.
The company has owned and traded as Hovells since 1969 and was bought from the Hovell family which was another Norwich family firm that at the time traded as a basket shop and wicker manufacturer.
Over time the company has built a portfolio of property in and around the Norwich area and intends to continue to develop this in the future.
